In that time, it has gone from a laboratory curiosity to a fully-fledged manufacturing method. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>\u201cFrom my perspective, it\u2019s something between a revolution and an add-on,\u201d<\/em> says \u0160t\u011bp\u00e1nek. <em>\u201cIt\u2019s clearly the newest technological direction that has matured to a level capable of producing complex, functional parts at low cost.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But be careful\u2014it\u2019s not a universal tool. The key word is  <\/span>when<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.  <strong>Deploying additive manufacturing where it won\u2019t help is an unnecessary cost. You can\u2019t do this with traditional manufacturing. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Nozzles with minimized dimensions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">  \u2013 in automotive, they developed application nozzles specifically for a robotic arm. A narrow channel, minimal dimensions, maximum freedom of movement for the robot. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Flexible feeding and stop elements<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">  \u2013 different spring characteristics within the same volume. Without 3D printing, this would require several separate parts. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Generatively designed components<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">  \u2013 organic design, minimal weight, maximum strength. A result a milling cutter simply can\u2019t mill. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And then there\u2019s speed. <strong><em>\u201cWe typically produce parts within hours of order confirmation,\u201d<\/em><\/strong> \u0160t\u011bp\u00e1nek emphasizes. With traditional custom manufacturing, you need to stock semi-finished material, tools, fixtures. Lead time increases. The conclusion? Progress is visible, but gaps remain.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many companies already have so-called entry-level technologies \u2013 <\/span><b>FDM<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">  (printing with plastic filament) or resin technologies. That\u2019s a good start. The problem is that industrial technologies such as   <\/span><b>SLS<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (selective laser sintering), <\/span><b>Multi Jet Fusion<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or <\/span><b>metal printing (SLM\/DMLS)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are still missing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These technologies make it possible to produce parts from engineering plastics and metals with mechanical properties comparable to milled or pressed parts. Without them, companies remain limited to prototypes and simple auxiliary fixtures. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UYB4GlPUopI?si=GCjSAKrecksoyBRG\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Where to start? Practical recommendations <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re considering introducing additive manufacturing into your company, \u0160t\u011bp\u00e1nek recommends a gradual approach:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Start with entry level<\/b> \u2013 FDM or UV LCD\/SLA technologies are accessible, easy to understand, and allow you to build know-how that later transfers to industrial technologies as well.<\/p>\n<p><b>Design for additive<\/b> \u2013 it\u2019s not enough to take an existing part and print it. The real value comes when the designer plans from the start with 3D printing capabilities in mind. <\/p>\n<p><b>Find where it makes sense<\/b> \u2013 additive manufacturing isn\u2019t for everything. It\u2019s strongest in one-off and small-batch production of geometrically complex parts, where speed and flexibility are decisive. <\/p>\n<p><b>Invest in materials<\/b> \u2013 the technologies are at a good level, but material development is still moving forward. Higher dimensional stability, mechanical strength, and impact resistance\u2014these are areas with room to grow. <\/p>\n<h2><strong>The younger generation feels it; schools don\u2019t always keep up<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An interesting signal is coming from young people. \u0160t\u011bp\u00e1nek regularly visits secondary schools and universities, gives lectures, and organizes tours. And what does he see?  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>\u201cA certain group of students is genuinely enthusiastic. They\u2019re willing to invest in technology from their own savings, take part-time jobs, do internships. They\u2019re building experience for future growth,\u201d  <\/em> says.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Schools may have 3D printers, but there isn\u2019t always enough capacity for teachers to devote themselves to them fully.<\/strong> The result? Students educate themselves in parallel\u2014at home, with friends, in maker spaces. For now. <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Today, additive manufacturing accounts for only a fraction of global production\u2014one product out of five hundred. But the American Wohlers Report suggests that in twenty to forty years, every second part could be made with 3D printing. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><em>\u201cAdditive manufacturing shouldn\u2019t be underestimated. It really creates huge opportunities\u2014in companies, in art, in industry, in sports. It\u2019s a universal and powerful tool,\u201d  <\/em><\/strong>  \u0160t\u011bp\u00e1nek concludes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So the question isn\u2019t <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">whether<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">  3D printing will become part of manufacturing.
